Upper Ma Ma Creek Rainforest Restoration Project

I coordinated the Upper Ma Ma Creek Rainforest Restoration Project in 2003-4, which aimed to assist the conservation of endangered dry rainforest remnants in the Fordsdale and Mt. Whitestone areas of the southern Lockyer Valley in south-east Queensland.

I engaged local landholders in weed control trials and informed them about management principles for the ecologically significant Regional Ecosystems in the area. The past clearing of rainforest vegetation in the Lockyer Valley has been extensive, leaving only a few remnants that are over 20ha in size.  Of the larger remnants left, most areas were covered in weeds.

The project brought together scientific knowledge in regard to ecosystem management and local knowledge in regard to practical solutions. It included a workshop involving presentations at the historic Fordsdale School of Arts and field visits to properties where weed control works were being undertaken.
