Sixth Generation of Knowledge Management for Sustainable Development (KM4SD)

In 2023, the paper of which I am lead author proposing the decolonisation of knowledge as a new sixth generation of knowledge management for sustainable development (KM4SD) was launched in a landmark event at the Dr Martin Luther King Jr Memorial Library in Washington DC.

The sixth generation of KM4SD has six highly interrelated features: epistemic justice, anti-racism, indigenous and local knowledge (ILK), diversity in KM approaches, new knowledge partnerships, and new knowledge practices.

Through the work of Dr Sarah Cummings, our proposal has since been adopted by UN agency IFAD (International Fund for Agricultural Development) as shown in points 22 and 23 on page 7 and Box 4 on page 58 of an IFAD evaluation report.
