Shoalhaven Environmental Flows
In response to the New South Wales (NSW) Government Metropolitan Water Plan, the NSW Department of Natural Resources coordinated the development of new environmental flow rules for the Shoalhaven River downstream of Tallowa Dam. The approach taken to determine the environmental flow requirements for the Shoalhaven River downstream of Tallowa Dam involved assessing the water needs of the river’s complete ecosystem, including its main river channel, river banks, estuary and important ecological features, such as rare and endangered species.
I conducted research and coordinated Scientific Advisory Panel advice to compile, edit and publish the two major project reports Determining and managing environmental flows for the Shoalhaven River, Report 1 – Environmental Flows Knowledge Review and Determining and managing environmental flows for the Shoalhaven River, Report 2 – Environmental Flows Investigations. I also coordinated the estuary investigation component of the project including the conduct of research, the identification of best practice, and the preparation of the Discussion Paper Environmental water requirements for the Shoalhaven River estuary.
